The Long Island Sound is one of the largest estuaries in the New England region of the United States and urbanization along the Sound has led to increased nutrient loading and the development of hypoxia over the summer months. In response to lowered oxygen levels, we have been measuring greenhouse gas (CO2, CH4, N2O) water-air fluxes from the Sound over a west (most urbanized) to east (least urbanized) gradient.
